On an iPad using a Managed Apple ID, the Sign Out button is grayed out and shows the message: “Sign out is not available due to restrictions.”  Restarting the iPad didn’t change anything either. What else could be blocking sign-out?

Hello @verbnigge ,

This message can appear when account changes are restricted either through an MDM restriction or locally on the iPad.

First, check whether any assigned Hexnode policy is blocking account modification:

  1. Go to Policies in the Hexnode UEM portal.
  2. Open the policy associated with the iPad.
  3. Navigate to iOS > Restrictions > Advanced Restrictions > Allow Security and Privacy Settings.
  4. Enable the Modify an account option.

If Modify an account is disabled, users will not be able to sign out of Apple ID or modify account settings on the device.

If no Hexnode restriction is configured, check Screen Time on the iPad:

  1. On the iPad, go to Settings > Screen Time.
  2. Check whether Screen Time is enabled.
  3. Open Content & Privacy Restrictions.
  4. Check whether account changes are restricted.
  5. Disable the restriction or turn off Screen Time, then check whether the Sign Out button becomes available.

Screen Time restrictions can cause the same “Sign out is not available due to restrictions” message even when no Hexnode Advanced Restrictions are applied.

Ah, now I see it, Screen Time was enabled on the iPad. The only snag was figuring out the Screen Time passcode, but once Screen Time was removed, the Sign Out button became clickable again.
