Silent VPP app install prompts on supervised iPads in multi-app kiosk modeSolved

Hi everyone. I’m setting up supervised iPads in multi-app kiosk mode and need a few apps to install automatically without user action. The iPads show as supervised in Hexnode and the apps were acquired via Apple Business Manager/VPP. However, when the kiosk policy applies, the iPads still display an “Install / Cancel” prompt for the apps. Does the Hexnode UEM app need to be included in the multi-app kiosk policy for silent app installation to work, or am I missing a VPP configuration step?

Hello,

Thank you for reaching out to Hexnode Connect!

To answer your first question: no, the Hexnode UEM app does not need to be included in the multi-app kiosk policy for silent installations to function.

When supervised iPads display an “Install / Cancel” prompt for VPP apps, it almost always stems from a VPP licensing or sync issue. If an app was accidentally added as a standard App Store app rather than its VPP counterpart, or if your available VPP license count has run out or failed to refresh in the portal, iPadOS falls back to prompting the user for confirmation.

To ensure completely silent deployment, follow these checks:

  1. Navigate to Admin > Apple Business Manager > Apple VPP and click Sync.
  2. Go to the Apps section, open the specific app, and verify that VPP licenses are assigned and that available licenses remain. (If you are out of licenses, acquire more in ABM and perform another VPP sync).
  3. Re-sync or refresh the policy deployment on the target iPads.

Once sufficient VPP licenses are verified and synced in Hexnode, iPadOS will process the installation silently in the background without requiring any user intervention.

Best regards,
George
