I’m managing Android Enterprise devices in Device Owner mode and need to allow users to install APKs or apps from unknown sources. I couldn’t find where to enable this permission in Hexnode. Is there a policy setting for this?

Yes, this can be configured through an Android policy in Hexnode. For Android Enterprise Device Owner devices, enable the unknown sources option from Advanced Restrictions:

  1. Go to the Policies tab in the Hexnode portal.
  2. Open the policy that is already associated with the Android devices, or create a new policy.
  3. Navigate to Android > Advanced Restrictions.
  4. Go to the Allow App Settings section.
  5. Enable Install apps from unknown sources.
  6. Save the policy and make sure it is associated with the target devices.

Once the policy is applied, the devices should allow installation of apps from unknown sources based on that restriction setting.

I was looking under the basic restrictions section and couldn’t find it there. The setting is under Android > Advanced Restrictions > Allow App Settings. Enabled it there and it started working.
