I’m trying to set up a weekly automation to clear media from the Photos/local storage on our enrolled iPads. The iPads are supervised and enrolled through Apple Business Manager, and the Hexnode UEM app is installed on them. However, I don’t see Clear Media as an option under Automation. If I go to the device level and check the actions under Other, Clear Media is visible but greyed out. We’re currently on the Ultimate plan. Is there another requirement I’m missing for supervised iPads, or is this a plan limitation?

Clear Media for iPad Photos/local storage is available only on the Ultra plan. Since the devices are already supervised and enrolled through Apple Business Manager, the supervision requirement is met.
The reason the action appears greyed out at the device level, and does not appear as an available automation action, is that the current plan does not include this feature. To use Clear Media on supervised iPads, including automating it on a schedule, the portal must be on a plan that includes the Clear Media action. If the portal is on Ultimate, this action remains unavailable even when the iPads are supervised.

That explains it. I thought supervision through ABM plus the Hexnode app would be enough to enable it. So there isn’t a setting inside the iOS policy or device action menu that can unlock it on Ultimate?

Correct. This is not controlled by an iOS policy setting or the Hexnode UEM app installation status. For Clear Media, there are two separate conditions to consider:
- The iPad must support the action, which generally means it should be supervised.
- The Hexnode plan must include the Clear Media feature.
In this case, the device-side requirement is already satisfied, but the feature is restricted by plan availability. That is why the action is shown but disabled, and why it cannot be selected in Automation.
