macOS login fails because local account is disabled in HexnodeSolved

A macOS user account on one of our managed devices is showing an error similar to “credential verification failed because account is disabled” when trying to log in. The account was enabled again from our side, and we also removed the related policy, but the user still could not log in at first.

I was a bit confused whether this needed to be fixed from the Hexnode admin/technician account settings or from the device itself. What is the correct way to enable a disabled macOS local account through Hexnode?

Hello @alice_grey ,

For a disabled macOS local user account, the action should be performed from the device record in Hexnode UEM, not from the Technicians and Roles section.

Use the following steps:

  1. Log in to the Hexnode UEM console with an admin or technician account that has permission to manage devices.
  2. Go to Manage > Devices.
  3. Select the affected macOS device.
  4. Open the Local Accounts tab.
  5. Click the disabled local user account.
  6. From the Actions dropdown, select Enable User.
  7. Confirm the action.

Once the command is executed on the device, try logging in to the macOS user account again. Removing a policy does not always re-enable a local account that is already disabled. The Enable User action from the Local Accounts tab is the correct option for this case.
