Windows Autopilot: Install Hexnode Service App Silently option is greyed outSolved

I’m setting up Windows Autopilot with Hexnode and reached the step for automating agent installation. The guide says to enable “Install Hexnode Service App Silently on Windows Devices,” but the option is greyed out under Admin > General Settings > Hexnode App Updates.

The tooltip points me toward Windows enrollment profiles, but I don’t see a separate “silent install” option there. I already have “Install Hexnode Service app” enabled in the default Windows enrollment profile. Is there another setting I’m missing for Autopilot?

Hi @ame-lie,

The “Install Hexnode Service App Silently on Windows Devices” option being greyed out under Admin > General Settings is expected behavior. This setting is no longer controlled globally from that page. It is managed through Windows Enrollment Profiles.

For Windows Autopilot deployments, check the enrollment profile used by your Autopilot enrollment:

  1. Go to Enroll > Platform-Specific > Windows > Windows PCs & Tablets.
  2. Edit the active enrollment profile used for the deployment.
  3. Under General Settings, enable Install Hexnode Service app.
  4. Save the profile.

If “Install Hexnode Service app” is already enabled in the active Windows enrollment profile, the required configuration is complete. The Hexnode Service app will be installed automatically after the Windows Autopilot enrollment completes, usually within a few minutes.

That explains the greyed-out setting, but just to confirm: there isn’t supposed to be a separate checkbox called “Install silently” inside the enrollment profile? I only see “Install Hexnode Service app,” and that is already enabled.

Correct @ame-lie. In the Windows enrollment profile, enabling “Install Hexnode Service app” is the setting that handles automatic installation for this workflow. The greyed-out option under Admin > General Settings only indicates that the behavior is controlled dynamically from enrollment profiles instead of being toggled globally.

So if the checkbox is enabled in the profile assigned to your Windows Autopilot setup, no additional silent install option needs to be enabled.

I tried clearing the browser cache and signing back in because I thought the greyed-out option might be a UI issue, but it stayed disabled. Sounds like that’s normal then.
