Can Hexnode clear an iPad passcode while it is in an 8-hour iOS lockout?Solved

An iPad user entered the wrong PIN too many times and the device is showing an 8-hour lockout timer. The iPad is still visible in Hexnode and has checked in recently. It also has cellular connectivity.

Can the passcode be cleared remotely from Hexnode right away, or does the user have to wait until the lockout timer ends?

Hi @sutton,

For iOS and iPadOS devices, Hexnode provides a remote action to clear the device passcode. You can initiate it from:

Manage > select the device > Actions > Security > Clear Passcode

However, there is an important limitation when the iPad is currently on an active lockout screen such as “iPad Unavailable” or “Security Lockout – try again in 8 hours.”

Even if the iPad has cellular connectivity and can receive the command, iOS may not process the Clear Passcode command while the countdown timer is active. In that state, Apple’s operating system restricts external changes until the lockout timer expires.

For a cellular iPad, the command can remain queued and should execute once the timer ends, provided the device is powered on and connected to the network. After the countdown finishes and the device returns to the normal passcode screen, the passcode can be cleared by the queued command.

If the user needs immediate access and cannot wait for the timer, the only immediate option is to place the iPad in Recovery Mode and restore it using a computer. This wipes the device and erases local data unless a backup is available.
