iPad locked after PIN changed to full passcode – can it be bypassed?Solved

An enrolled iPad was previously using a simple PIN, but it looks like the device passcode was changed to a full passcode. Now the device is locked and nobody knows the new passcode. Is there any way to bypass the lock screen from Hexnode, or do we have to reset the device?

Hi @merlynn,

For iOS/iPadOS devices, Apple does not allow the lock screen passcode to be bypassed if the current passcode is unknown. If the device passcode was changed from a standard PIN to a full passcode and the new passcode is not available, the device cannot be unlocked without entering that passcode.

In this situation, the reusable resolution is to perform a complete device wipe. This removes the passcode and allows the iPad to be set up again, but it will also erase the data on the device.

If the device is still communicating with Hexnode, you can initiate the wipe from the Hexnode portal using the device wipe remote action. If the device is not reachable, it may need to be erased manually through Apple’s recovery process before being set up again.
