New iPhone not appearing in Hexnode ADE after ABM sync and shows “Profile Downloaded”Solved

I’m trying to enroll a new iPhone in Hexnode. At first, enrollment failed because there weren’t enough licenses, so I added another license and tried again. Now the iPhone only says “Profile Downloaded — review the Settings app if you want to install.” Usually, when we set up new iPhones, the management profile loads automatically during setup, so this is different from the normal flow. The device is not listed in Hexnode yet, but it does appear in Apple Business. I also tried syncing devices from Automated Device Enrollment, but the iPhone still didn’t show up. What should I check next?

If the iPhone normally enrolls automatically during setup, it is likely using Apple Automated Device Enrollment through Apple Business.

The “Profile Downloaded” message usually appears when a configuration profile is downloaded manually instead of the device going through Automated Device Enrollment during Setup Assistant.

Since the device is present in Apple Business Manager but does not appear in Hexnode after syncing, check whether the ADE server token linked to Hexnode has expired.

You can verify this in Hexnode from:

Admin > Apple Business Manager > Automated Device Enrollment > Accounts

Open the ADE account and check the token expiry date. If the token has expired, renew it from Apple Business and upload the new server token to Hexnode.

I checked the ADE account in Hexnode and the expiry date was already past due. That seems to be the issue. What’s the proper way to renew it without breaking existing devices?

To renew the ADE token:

1. Log in to Apple Business.

2. Navigate to Devices.

3. Open Management and select the MDM server used for Hexnode under Device Management Services.

4. Use the menu option to download a new server token.

5. Login to Hexnode UEM and navigate to Admin > Apple Business > Automated Device Enrollment > Accounts.

6. Edit the corresponding ADE account.

7. Upload the newly downloaded server token.

8. Save the changes.

9. Go back to Automated Device Enrollment and run Sync All Devices.

Renewing the token does not remove management from devices that are already enrolled. It restores communication between Apple Business Manager and Hexnode so newly assigned ADE devices can sync again.

And another thing i would like to add on is that, for Automated Device Enrollment, the device must go through Setup Assistant after the ADE profile is assigned. If the phone was already set up before the ADE sync/profile assignment was corrected, erasing it and setting it up again is required to trigger automated enrollment.
