Deploy whatsapp to ios devices using apple Vpp licensesSolved

I’m trying to add WhatsApp to our managed iOS devices through Hexnode. The app shows up as something I want to deploy, but I think I may be missing the license assignment part before adding it to a policy or pushing it out to devices.

I was trying to add it directly to a policy first, but it seems like I missed a step. What is the correct workflow for deploying WhatsApp as a managed app on iOS using VPP?

Hi @harold,
You are correct that the order of operations is important here. To deploy WhatsApp as a managed Apple VPP app, the licenses must first be acquired in Apple Business Manager (ABM) and synced to Hexnode before you can assign the app to your devices.

Here is the correct workflow to get this deployed:

Step 1: Acquire Licenses in ABM

  1. Sign in to Apple Business Manager with an account that has the Administrator or Content Manager role.
  2. Navigate to Apps and Books.
  3. Search for WhatsApp and select it.
  4. Under Assign to, choose your required organization or location.
  5. Enter the number of licenses needed and complete the assignment.

Step 2: Sync and Deploy in Hexnode

  1. In the Hexnode UEM portal, go to Admin > Apple Business/School Manager > Apple VPP.
  2. Sync the corresponding VPP account so Hexnode fetches the updated app license information from Apple.
  3. Once the sync is complete, you can safely deploy WhatsApp to your enrolled devices by adding it under App Management > Required Apps in a policy, or by using the Actions > Install Application remote action.

Please let me know if you run into any issues during the sync or deployment process.
