How do multiple Android kiosk policies apply on the same Galaxy tablet?Solved

I have a few Samsung Galaxy tablets managed in Hexnode, and two different policies are assigned to the same devices. Both policies have kiosk lockdown configured. Do the kiosk settings from both policies combine, or does one policy overwrite the other? I’m mainly trying to understand what happens to device restrictions and the list of allowed kiosk apps when more than one kiosk policy applies to the same Android tablet.

Hi @lila_ace !

When multiple policies are associated with the same Android device, the behavior depends on the type of setting being applied.

For general device restrictions, Hexnode applies the most restrictive configuration. For example, if one policy allows a device function and another policy blocks it, the blocked/restricted setting takes precedence.

For kiosk-specific configurations, such as the kiosk launcher layout and allowed apps, the settings are not merged across policies. The kiosk configuration from the last applied applicable policy takes precedence over the earlier kiosk configuration.

So, if both policies configure kiosk lockdown, do not expect the allowed apps or layout from both policies to combine into one launcher. If you need a specific set of apps in kiosk mode, it is best to configure them together in a single kiosk policy to avoid conflicts.

So, if Policy A has App 1 and App 2 in kiosk, and Policy B has App 3, the tablet won’t show all three apps together?

Correct @lila_ace .

The kiosk app list and layout are not combined from both policies. In that example, the kiosk setup from the policy that takes precedence would be applied, and the other kiosk layout/app list would be overwritten for that device. If the goal is to show App 1, App 2, and App 3 together, add all required apps to the same kiosk configuration instead of splitting them across separate kiosk policies.

That clears it up. We’ll keep the kiosk app list in one policy and use the stricter behavior only for device restrictions.
