Can Hexnode view Android call log history or manage mobile data and files?Solved

Hi everyone. I’m currently managing a fleet of Android devices with Hexnode and need to clarify a few capabilities regarding monitoring and device control.

First, is there any way to remotely view or fetch the call log history from enrolled phones? I don’t want to block the dialer; I just need to audit the history. Second, can we force mobile data to stay enabled so users can’t turn it off? Lastly, is it possible to automatically push company documents into a specific folder on each phone without requiring manual user downloads?

Hello,

Thanks for reaching out to Hexnode Connect.

To help you understand what Hexnode can and cannot manage on Android devices, here is a breakdown addressing your three requirements:

1. Call Log History (Not Supported)

Hexnode UEM cannot record, fetch, or display call log history or text message contents from Android devices. Due to OS-level privacy restrictions enforced by Google, MDM solutions are strictly blocked from accessing private user data. While Hexnode can implement preventive restrictions—such as blocking the dialer app or restricting incoming/outgoing calls—it cannot retrieve historical call data for reporting.

2. Enforcing Mobile Data

You can prevent users from turning off cellular data by enforcing a restrictions policy.

  • Navigate to Policies > Android > Restrictions.
  • Under the network/cellular settings, ensure the option to keep mobile data enabled is configured and restrict the user’s ability to modify network settings.
  • Note: The exact availability of this restriction depends on your specific enrollment method (such as Android Enterprise Device Owner mode).

3. Automatic File Distribution

You can silently push documents directly to a designated folder on the devices without any manual user intervention using Hexnode’s File Management feature.

Here is the setup workflow:

  1. Navigate to Content > My Files in the Hexnode portal and click Add File(s) to upload your documents.
  2. Create or edit an Android policy and go to Android > Customizations > File Management.
  3. Click Configure and add your uploaded files.
  4. Define your destination target path on the device (for example: /storage/emulated/0/CompanyDocs).
  5. Save and associate the policy with your target devices.

Once the policy lands on the devices, Hexnode will automatically create the directory and distribute the files seamlessly.

I hope this helps clarify your deployment strategy. If you find any more issues or need further assistance feel free to reach out.

Best regards,
George,
