We’re seeing an odd issue on a few Windows devices where the Power options are missing from the Start menu. On some devices it shows normally, but on others the power button itself is missing.

Has anyone seen this before with Hexnode-managed devices?

This could be related to the Start Menu configuration applied through the Windows policy on those specific devices.

Please navigate to:

Manage > Devices > Select the affected device > Device Summary > Policies

Open the applied Windows Policy and go to:

Windows > Customizations > Start Menu > Configure

Please ensure that the Power Button option is enabled in the policy settings.

Thank you for the detailed troubleshooting steps.

I verified the policy configuration and confirmed that the Power Button setting is enabled. However, the Start Menu power options are still missing on the affected device.

Could you please confirm whether there are any conflicting policies associated with these devices?

This behavior can sometimes occur if a Windows Group Policy, Registry setting, or another existing MDM profile is restricting access to the power options on those specific systems.

On one of the affected devices, you may also try temporarily removing the Hexnode-specific policies, restarting the device, and then checking whether the issue persists.

You can additionally try the following command to enable the Power system icon on the taskbar:

Please try the above and let us know how it goes.

I checked for conflicting policies but couldn’t find anything restricting the power options. I also executed the registry command, but it returned that no registry key was found.

We saw something similar on a few Windows 11 devices recently. In our case, it ended up being related to Windows itself rather than the MDM configuration.

Since the Hexnode policy configuration appears correct, this seems more like a Microsoft-specific discrepancy.

You can also refer to the following Microsoft discussion for additional troubleshooting guidance:

A few methods mentioned there that may help are:

Method 1: Repair System Files and Power Schemes

  1. Press the Windows key and search for cmd.

  1. Right-click Command Prompt and select Run as administrator.

  1. Run the following commands one by one:

‍

  1. Restart the device afterward and check the Start menu again.

Method 2: Check Local Group Policy

  1. Press Windows + R, type gpedit.msc, and press Enter.

  1. Navigate to: User Configuration > Administrative Templates > Start Menu and Taskbar.

  1. Locate the policy named: Remove and prevent access to the Shut Down, Restart, Sleep, and Hibernate commands.

  1. Set it to Not Configured or Disabled, then click Apply and OK.

Method 3: Check Registry Settings

  1. Press Windows + R, type regedit, and press Enter.

  1. Navigate to:

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer.

  1. Look for an entry named NoClose.

  1. If present, open it and set the value data to 0.

  1. Restart the device and verify whether the power options return to the Start menu.
