Ran a 30-day inactive device audit inΒ HexnodeΒ today and found way more devices than I expected πŸ˜…Β

Some users are still working normally but their devicesΒ haven’tΒ checked in for weeks. How doΒ you guysΒ usually handle this?Β

WeΒ don’tΒ remove themΒ immediatelyΒ anymore.Β

A lot of ours were just devices with dead batteries sitting somewhere unused.Β

We had a few where the battery was fine too. Those ended up being devices that stopped syncing because of battery saver settings.Β

Opening theΒ HexnodeΒ app fixed it.Β

Good to know honestly. We were assuming inactive = device gone.Β

Do you contact the user first?Β

Yeah. Usually:Β

  • Send Scan DeviceΒ

  • Wait a bitΒ

  • Ask user to open the appΒ

That fixes a surprising number of devices.Β

We also started checking the inactive devices report every month now. Much easier than waiting until the list gets huge.Β

Makes sense.Β We’veΒ mostly been ignoring the report unlessΒ there’sΒ a problem. Probably should start reviewing it regularly.Β
