We’re noticing that apps on our managed iPhones aren’t updating automatically. Users keep ignoring the App Store prompts, and some devices are stuck on old versions. How can I overcome this?

Maybe you can just set the devices to auto‑update from the App Store? I think there’s a toggle for that in iOS settings.

I had a similar issue, but in my case app deployments stopped completely. Later I found out our VPP token had expired, didn’t realize those tokens only last a year.

Hello everyone, thanks for your thoughts.
When managed devices remain on outdated app versions or deployments stop unexpectedly, it usually points to two underlying factors: update fatigue and VPP token expiry. Addressing these ensures that applications remain current, and deployments continue without interruption.
Here’s the recommended approach:
- Silent Updates: When apps are distributed via Apple’s Volume Purchase Program (VPP) and configured as Required Apps in Hexnode UEM, updates can be triggered silently in the background. This ensures devices remain current without relying on users to open the App Store or approve prompts.
- Token Lifecycle: VPP tokens issued by Apple Business expire every 365 days. If the token is not renewed before expiry, app deployments and updates will stop. The best practice is to set reminders, renew the token in Apple Business, and upload the new one in Hexnode UEM without deleting the existing entry.
