I changed the device ownership of an iPad from Corporate to Local/Default just to test a few policy behaviors. Long story short, I’m trying to re-enroll it into Hexnode now, but it’s throwing a “Device limit reached” error at me. The weird part is, I haven’t added any new devices, and this specific iPad still has an existing entry in my portal. Why is it treating this like a brand-new device and blocking me on licenses? Anyone run into this?

When you mess with ownership or wipe a device without properly telling Hexnode first, the portal still thinks the original instance is active and holds onto that license. It sees your re-enrollment attempt as a completely new device trying to grab a non-existent spare license.
Is this iPad enrolled via Apple Business Manager (ABM)?
Yes, it’s an ABM device tied to our automated enrollment server. So basically, the portal is hoarding the license for the “old” state of the iPad. The problem is, because the device is stuck in this weird limbo, it’s not even checking in with Hexnode anymore.

Since it’s an ABM device, as soon as it boots up and hits Wi-Fi, it’ll ping Apple, grab your Hexnode profile, and slide right back into the portal using that freshly freed-up license.
