macOS devices not syncing properly..Solved

Hi everyone,

I ran into a strange issue with a couple of our macOS devices (IDs 43 & 110). They were not syncing properly with Hexnode, which caused a few problems on our end.

For example, we couldn’t elevate admin access through the self-service portal. The only action that seemed to work was the Scan Device command. However, actions like running custom scripts were consistently failing.

We checked a few basics:

  • Devices were online

  • Certificates were present

  • Last check-in showed around 10–15 minutes ago

  • Restarted both devices multiple times

Despite all this, sync attempts from the portal didn’t seem to go through.

Has anyone faced something similar?

@im_jaymes  , thanks for sharing the details — that helps narrow things down. Since the devices were checking in but not fully syncing, this usually points to an issue with the agent rather than connectivity or configuration.

Please check if your devices are running an older version of the Hexnode agent (v26). If so, then updating the agent from the Device Summary page will re-establish proper communication with the server.

Once the agent gets updated, both the sync behavior and admin elevation via self-service will start working as expected.

Got it, that worked! Updating the agent fixed the issue completely.

One quick question though-is there a way to update the Hexnode agent in bulk for all macOS devices?

Good to hear that resolved it!

At the moment, bulk updating the Hexnode agent across macOS devices isn’t supported. The update needs to be initiated individually from each device’s Device Summary page.

If you have a large fleet, you might want to periodically review agent versions and plan updates accordingly.
