Hide policy detailsSolved

Hi, we’re currently managing a number of macOS devices through Hexnode, and I noticed that users can see the policy names and descriptions when they open the Profiles section in System Settings.

Some of our policies include internal naming conventions that are mainly meant for our IT team. Is there any way to hide the policy name or description from users on macOS devices?

Same, we’re planning a macOS and Windows rollout soon and were wondering about the same thing. Ideally, we’d prefer that users don’t see the policy naming details, since those are mostly for internal management.

Hi @amy_taylor, and @remi,

At the moment, policy names and descriptions cannot be hidden on macOS devices managed through Hexnode.

This behavior is due to macOS platform requirements. Apple requires configuration profiles installed through MDM to remain visible to the end user for transparency. As a result, macOS users can view all active configuration profiles on their device, including the profile title and description configured in the Hexnode portal.

Though, Windows devices behave differently. On Windows, users typically only see the device management status under Access work or school, and the detailed policy names or descriptions are not exposed in the same way.

If you want to avoid exposing internal naming conventions, one practical approach is to use neutral or user-friendly titles and descriptions for policies that will be visible on macOS devices.

Let us know if you have any further questions.
