Home screen looks empty, but I can’t add more appsSolved

I’m a bit confused with the home screen layout on our iPads. The main screen clearly has space left, but when I try to add more apps, the policy pushes them to a second page instead.

It feels odd because visually there’s room, but practically I’m blocked. Is this a platform limitation or something enforced by the layout policy?

Hi @pepijn,

Thank you for reaching out. This behavior is tied to how iOS handles home screen layouts rather than the visible space alone. On iPads running iOS 11 and later, the dock can hold up to 13 apps, while devices on iOS 10.3.3 and earlier support fewer. Once the configured layout reaches that limit, any additional apps need to be placed on a second page, even if the screen appears to have room.

At the moment, the layout doesn’t provide an option to visually edit or rearrange app placement beyond these constraints. That said, the suggestion to include an edit or customization option for the home screen layout is a valid one, and I’ll pass this feedback along to the team for consideration.

In the meantime, moving additional apps to the second page is the recommended approach.

Let us know if you need any further help.

Cheers,
