Unable to Enroll Windows DeviceSolved

We’re trying to enroll a Windows device into Hexnode, but during enrollment it throws an error saying the device is already enrolled and asks for co-management.

We double-checked and there’s no other MDM configured on the device. Has anyone faced this before? How do we fix it?

@ryanmoore , this usually happens when the device still has leftover MDM registry entries from a previous enrollment. Even if the old MDM is removed, Windows may still think it’s managed. To fix this, you’ll need to clear the old MDM registry entries and then retry enrollment.

  • Step 1-Restart the Device: First, restart the device if you haven’t already. This clears temporary enrollment states.
  • Step 2-Clear Old MDM Registry Entries
If you still see the “Existing MDM” or co-management message, follow these steps:

    1. Press Windows + R, type regedit, and press Enter.
    2. Go to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Provisioning\OMADM
    3. Back up the key:
      • Right-click on OMADM
      • Select Export
      • Save it somewhere safe (like Desktop)
    4. Delete the key:
      • Right-click OMADM again
      • Click Delete
      • Confirm when prompted
    5. Close Registry Editor.
  • Step 3-Reinstall Hexnode:
Once the old entries are removed:

    • Run the Hexnode installer again
    • Proceed with enrollment as usual

This should remove the false “already enrolled” state and allow the device to enroll normally.

Tried this and it worked! The device enrolled without asking for co-management. Thanks!
