Introduction

Managing and ensuring the proper use of enterprise tools can be a significant challenge. Spreeloop had to ensure that the tablets provided to their restaurant partners were not misused and locked to their dedicated application. This case study demonstrates how, with Hexnode's kiosk lockdown and device monitoring features, they were able to accomplish this task.

Background

Spreeloop, founded in 2020 in Douala, Cameroon, offers engineering and professional services. They develop embedded software solutions to automate African businesses, improve visibility, sales, and client relations, including Spreeloop Place for finding local restaurants, placing orders, and reserving tables.

Challenges Faced

The company supplies partner restaurants with tablets to effectively manage customer requests and orders via their Spreeloop Place app. A device management solution was required to maintain device security and ensure they serve their designated functions. A few other significant requirements were to prevent potential misuse and install unapproved applications while providing alerts for device non-compliance.

Consideration of MDM Solutions

Patrick discovered Hexnode through Google while searching for an affordable unified endpoint management solution. He had also considered other UEM solutions during his evaluation process. His plan was to manage the devices using a UEM solution, employing kiosk lockdown, device monitoring, and API functions. Impressed by the positive reviews, the high-quality solution, and the dedicated customer support, he ultimately chose Hexnode.

Integration of Hexnode

Like many UEM and IT security solutions, the research and implementation of a solution can be a tedious effort. However, with Hexnode's dedicated customer support team, this process was made easy for Patrick.

One of Patrick's favorite features is Hexnode's kiosk lockdown, which he used to lock tablets to their custom application and ensure that partners do not misuse the device or use other applications. According to the requirements, admins lock the devices to one or more applications with the help of Hexnode. Additionally, the kiosk lockdown mode helps restrict the installation of applications onto the device, limiting functionality to the app's user interface. Increased device security is achieved with kiosk exit passwords that administrators can use to unlock the devices when necessary.

The Hexnode API is a RESTful JSON implementation that enables you to read, write, edit, and delete data. The HTTP client library allows developers to establish simple and direct communication. Patrick utilizes these extensive API features to promptly alert the delivery partners or logistics team about device non-compliance, assisting them in analyzing and diagnosing problems.
