Will disenrolling devices from Hexnode require a factory reset?Solved

We’re planning to stop using Hexnode and want to remove our devices from management first. If we disenroll devices from the Hexnode portal, will that wipe the devices or force a factory reset? We have a mix of iOS and Android devices and want to avoid losing personal data if possible.

Hi @merlynn,

Disenroll the devices from the Hexnode portal before canceling or losing access to the subscription.

For most enrollment types, disenrolling a device from the portal does not perform a factory reset. It removes Hexnode management over the air, including the MDM profile, pushed configurations, restrictions, and managed corporate apps, while leaving personal data intact.

The main exception is Android Enterprise Device Owner / Fully Managed mode. Because this mode gives management control at the device-owner level, the device generally requires a factory reset to fully clear management after disenrollment.

If the subscription is canceled before the devices are disenrolled, you may no longer be able to remove management over the air from the portal. In that case, a factory reset may be required to remove management from the devices.

So for normal iPhones and Android devices that are not fully managed Device Owner, using Disenroll from the portal should just remove the MDM side of things and not wipe photos, files, or personal apps?

Correct. For most non-Device Owner enrollment types, portal-based disenrollment removes the management profile and Hexnode-applied settings without wiping personal data.

After disenrollment, managed apps and configurations deployed through Hexnode may be removed depending on how they were installed or assigned, but the device itself is not factory reset.
