Unable to exit Single App Kiosk on Android tablet using reboot and tapSolved

I have an Android 14 tablet in Hexnode Single App Kiosk mode. I configured the option to exit kiosk by tapping the screen multiple times after reboot, but the password prompt never appears on this tablet.

The same tap-to-exit method works on some phones. On this tablet, the only reliable way I could exit kiosk was from the Hexnode console. Earlier, tapping near the top-right status area used to work, but now tapping anywhere after reboot does not bring up the exit password prompt.

Is there a specific policy setting needed for this on Android kiosk devices?

Hello @luke ,

For Android Single App Kiosk, the tap-to-exit workflow works only when the kiosk policy allows it.

Check the following setting in the Hexnode UEM portal:

  1. Go to Policies > [kiosk policy].
  2. Open Android Kiosk Lockdown > Kiosk Exit Settings.
  3. Enable Reboot and tap to exit from kiosk mode.
  4. Save the policy.
  5. Confirm from Action History that the updated policy has been applied to the device.

After the policy is applied, reboot the device. When the device reaches the home screen, tap the screen the configured number of times before the kiosk app launches. The kiosk exit passcode prompt should appear.

Also verify which passcode is expected:

  • Global exit passcode: Admin > General Settings > Global Exit Settings
  • Policy-specific passcode: Policies > [kiosk policy] > Android Kiosk Lockdown > Kiosk Exit Settings

If a policy-specific passcode is configured, it overrides the global exit passcode.

That setting was not enabled in the kiosk policy. After enabling Reboot and tap to exit from kiosk mode and pushing the policy again, the tap method started working.

But now the password prompt seems to appear behind the kiosk app. I have to press the Android back button to close the app first, and then I can see the passcode prompt. The app is supposed to launch after a delay, not immediately.

If the exit prompt appears behind the kiosk app, check the kiosk launcher auto-launch delay.

Go to: Policies > [kiosk policy] > Android Kiosk Lockdown > Launcher > App auto-launch delay

Confirm that the app auto-launch delay is set to a sufficient value, such as 20 seconds. This gives enough time after reboot for the tap-to-exit action and passcode prompt to appear before the kiosk app takes focus.

After changing the delay, save the policy and make sure it is applied to the device. Then reboot the tablet and try the tap-to-exit flow again.
