Smart Switch blocked after disenrolling Samsung Device Owner deviceSolved

I disenrolled a Samsung Android device that was previously managed as a corporate-owned Device Owner device. Hexnode shows the disenrollment as successful and the device is no longer listed in the portal.

On the phone, the Hexnode for Work app says the device has been disenrolled and asks for a factory reset to re-enroll. The problem is that Samsung Smart Switch is still blocked with the message: “Security Policy restricts the use of Smart Switch.”

I need to transfer data to a replacement device. Is there any way to enable Smart Switch or fully remove the Hexnode restrictions after disenrollment without factory resetting the old phone?

This behavior can occur on Samsung devices that were enrolled as Android Enterprise Device Owner / corporate-owned devices.

When the device is disenrolled without a wipe, Hexnode no longer manages the device from the portal. However, Samsung Device Owner security restrictions and some management remnants can remain on the device until it is factory reset. Since the device is already disenrolled, Hexnode can no longer push a new policy or app configuration to change the Smart Switch restriction.

For the current device, the available options are:

  1. Perform a factory reset to fully remove the Device Owner management state and related restrictions.
  2. Use an alternate transfer method, such as Google Drive, OneDrive, or another cloud backup service, for files, photos, contacts, and supported app data.

If Smart Switch is required, it must be allowed while the device is still enrolled, before triggering disenrollment.
