Secondary macOS user login not recognized with Microsoft Entra ID and Hexnode AccessSolved

We are testing MacBook Pro enrollment with Hexnode Access and Microsoft Entra ID. The first login works fine with the admin account, and after entering that account I get redirected to the Entra ID login page.

The issue happens when a second test user tries to log in after the Mac is restarted. The Mac does not recognize the test user’s credentials at the login screen. The user exists in our directory, but it looks like the account may not have synced into Hexnode before the login attempt.

Does Hexnode Access require the Entra ID user to be synced into Hexnode before that user can log in on macOS?

Hi @clauss,

When Hexnode Access is configured with Microsoft Entra ID, the user must be available in Hexnode before the Mac can recognize that corporate identity during login.

For a newly created or recently updated user, verify the sync flow in this order:

  1. Confirm that the user account has synced from your directory to Microsoft Entra ID.
  2. In Hexnode, go to Manage > Users and check whether the user is listed.
  3. If the user is not listed yet, run a Microsoft Entra ID sync from Hexnode.
  4. After the user appears in Hexnode, retry the login on the Mac.

If the user was not synced into Hexnode at the time of the login attempt, the Hexnode Access policy applied to the Mac will not recognize the user’s corporate credentials.

We ran into the same thing during rollout. For new accounts, we had to wait until the account showed up in Entra ID first, then trigger the Entra ID sync in Hexnode.
