Hi, I want to manage school lab Mac devices and limit access to certain native apps such as Safari, Messages, FaceTime, and Mail to help them stay focused on schoolwork. What could be done to restrict the use of these apps on Mac?

You can restrict the use of native apps from the device end by setting the usage limit of the apps to “0” in the screen time settings to completely block access. To ensure these restrictions are not easily bypassed, set a Screen Time Passcode under the Screen Time settings. This passcode will be required to modify or disable the restrictions you’ve set.

Hello @aurora , thank you for reaching out to us. One effective approach to restricting the use of native applications on Mac devices is to implement a Blocklist/Allowlist policy. Utilizing the Blocklist feature, you can create a list of native apps that users cannot access. The following steps outline the process of configuring this policy:

  1. Login to your Hexnode UEM console.
  2. Navigate to the macOS section under the Policies tab.
  3. Go to Blocklist/Allowlist under App Management.
  4. Select the option Blocklist.
  5. Click on +Add to add either an app or a group of apps to be blocklisted.
