Remote wipe not working on Mac at login screenSolved

Hi all, I tried executing a remote wipe action to a Mac, but it didn’t go through. The device was stuck at the login screen and I couldn’t get past it. I had to reset it manually. Just wondering if Hexnode can handle this remotely when the Mac isn’t with me.

So if the Mac is sitting at the login page, does that mean the wipe command won’t reach it at all?

Maybe pushing a WiFi profile could help? If the Mac is set to autojoin a network, it might stay online even at the login screen. Not sure if macOS always allows that though.

Hello everyone,

Remote wipe is supported on Macs, but it requires the device to remain connected to the internet. At the login screen, macOS may not always maintain a Wi‑Fi connection unless a system‑level profile has been configured.

To address this limitation, here are some possible workarounds:

  • Using Ethernet to keep the Mac online at the login screen.
  • Configuring a Wi-Fi policy in Hexnode UEM with auto‑join enabled, so the Mac attempts to connect even when no one is logged in.

Please note that Apple’s security architecture may still block connectivity in certain scenarios, so this does not guarantee success every time.

Let us know if the issue persists, so we can look further into it.
