Remote control Windows device at login screen without Ctrl+Alt+Del optionSolved

I’m trying to use Hexnode Remote to access a Windows computer that is sitting at the Windows login prompt. I don’t see an option to send Ctrl+Alt+Del, and the option to initiate a session without user interaction is not enabled right now. Is there a way to log in to the computer remotely from this state, or does something need to be changed in policy first?

When Unattended Remote Access is not enabled, Hexnode Remote requires an active logged-in user session on the Windows device. If the device is only at the Windows login prompt and no user is logged in, Hexnode Remote cannot interact with the login screen or perform actions such as sending Ctrl+Alt+Del.

To allow future remote sessions without requiring local user interaction, enable Unattended Remote Access for the Windows device:

  1. Go to Policies > New Policy.
  2. Select Windows.
  3. Navigate to Remote Management under Troubleshooting.
  4. Configure the Unattended Remote Access settings.
  5.  Associate the policy with the required Windows devices.

Once the policy is applied to the device, you can initiate remote sessions without needing the user to accept the connection locally.

So if the machine is already at the login screen and unattended access was never enabled, there isn’t a way to take control of it from Hexnode at that point?

Correct. For an attended remote session, a user session needs to be active on the Windows device. If unattended access was not configured beforehand, the remote session cannot be started from the login screen alone. The practical fix is to apply a Windows policy with Unattended Remote Access enabled to the devices where this type of access may be needed later.
