OpenVPN not reconnecting after iOS restart in kiosk modeSolved

I have an iOS device locked into a single web-app kiosk using Hexnode Browser Lite, with the connection going through OpenVPN. Everything works fine once the device is in kiosk mode, but if the device is restarted or powered off, the VPN drops and doesn’t reconnect automatically.

Would setting up Per-App VPN for Browser Lite solve this?

Per-App VPN may not solve this, as the OpenVPN connection would still need to reconnect after the device restarts. I came across this discussion about OpenVPN on iOS not staying connected, which might be worth a look.

Thanks for sharing. Could this be related to how OpenVPN or iOS handles reconnection after a restart? Is there anything I can try from the Hexnode UEM console?

Hi @noor_k ,

Unfortunately, there isn’t a configuration in Hexnode UEM that can make OpenVPN reconnect after a restart in this situation. As @finn pointed out, Per-App VPN for Browser Lite would not resolve the issue either. We’d recommend checking with OpenVPN support to clarify whether the reconnection behavior is specific to OpenVPN or  related to how iOS handles the VPN connection.
