Managed Google Play apps not installing silently on Android Enterprise devices without Play StoreSolved

I’m setting up Android Enterprise work-owned devices and want a few Managed Google Play apps to be installed automatically when the device is ready out of the box. I added the apps to Hexnode and assigned them through an Android policy under required apps.

On the device, they show as ready to install in the Hexnode app, but they don’t install automatically unless Google Play Store is available on the device. The goal is to auto-install and auto-update apps without giving the device user access to the Play Store or app installation permissions. Is this possible without using kiosk mode?

Managed Google Play apps can be installed and updated silently on Android Enterprise device-owner devices, but the Google Play Store service must be present on the device.

You do not need to give the end user permission to install apps manually. However, Managed Google Play app installation and updates depend on the Play Store framework running in the background.

For silent deployment, verify the following:

1. The device is enrolled as an Android Enterprise device owner.

2. The app is added as a Managed Google Play app in Hexnode.

3. The app is assigned through a policy under Android > App management > Required apps.

4. Google Play Store is available on the device, even if the user is not allowed to open or use it directly.

If the Play Store is removed or unavailable, Managed Google Play apps cannot be silently installed or updated. In that case, APK deployment is the available alternative for installing and updating apps.
