macOS App Store apps not showing in Hexnode install application listSolved

I’m trying to install an App Store app on a single MacBook from the Hexnode portal. I went to the device page and checked Actions > Applications > Install Application, but I don’t see the Store Apps option or the app I want to push.

Is there a separate step needed before App Store apps can be deployed to macOS devices?

Hi @remy,

For macOS App Store apps to appear for deployment in Hexnode, the app must first be acquired through Apple Business or Apple School Manager using Apple VPP.

Please check the following:

  1. In Hexnode, go to Admin > Apple Business/School Manager > Apple VPP and confirm that a VPP account is connected.
  2. Log in to Apple Business.
  3. Go to Apps and Services and open the store.
  4. Search for the required App Store app.
  5. Under Buy Licenses, select the correct location and enter the required quantity of licenses.
  6. Click Get to acquire the licenses.
  7. Return to Hexnode and go to Admin > Apple Business/School Manager > Apple VPP.
  8. Click Sync.
  9. After the sync completes, go to the Apps section and verify that the app is listed with available VPP licenses.

Once the VPP licenses are synced, you can deploy the app to the Mac from Manage > Devices > select the Mac > Actions > Applications > Install Application.

Does Apple Business Manager charge for this? I’m trying to add a free app and don’t want to accidentally purchase anything.

Hi @remy,

Apple Business itself is free to use. Also, acquiring VPP licenses for free App Store apps does not add a cost. You still need to acquire a license quantity for free apps so that they can be assigned and managed through MDM, but there is no charge for free app licenses.
