Keeper Authenticator not working for Hexnode 2FA rolling tokensSolved

My authenticator rolling token for Hexnode 2FA stopped working recently. The only verification option I was getting was email, which became painful because I work in the portal frequently and kept having to request email codes for routine actions.

I also could not find an option in my profile to remove or reconfigure the existing authenticator token. Keeper Authenticator works fine for my other apps, so this seemed specific to Hexnode. Has anyone run into this or found a way to re-add the authenticator app?

Hi @eduardo,

If the authenticator rolling token stops working and email becomes the only available verification method, use the Reconfigure MFA option from the technician profile to set up the authenticator app again.

Go to My Profile in the Hexnode portal and check for Reconfigure MFA. This allows the technician to reconfigure the authenticator app for their own account.

If the option is unavailable, use a temporary technician profile workaround to reduce repeated email 2FA prompts:

  1. Go to Admin > Technicians and Roles > Profiles.
  2. Click Create New Profile.
  3. Open the Sign-in & Security tab.
  4. Uncheck Enable Hexnode-managed 2FA.
  5. Save the profile.
  6. Go to Admin > Technicians and Roles.
  7. Open the affected technician account.
  8. Click Edit.
  9. Under Assign Profile, choose the newly created profile and save.

A technician cannot assign a profile to their own account, so another admin must assign the custom profile. Once assigned, the technician will not be prompted for Hexnode-managed email 2FA while the authenticator setup is being fixed.
