iPad stuck on “Getting Configurations” during ABM/ADE enrollmentSolved

I’m trying to enroll three iPads through Apple Business Manager/ADE into Hexnode. They reach the Remote Management screen and stay on “Getting Configurations from <organization>”. In Hexnode, I synced ADE and checked one of the devices under DEP devices. The profile status shows as assigned. We tried rebooting, but the setup screen does not give an option to switch to another Wi-Fi network. After restoring one iPad, it no longer stayed on the configuration screen, but now it shows Activation Lock with my Apple ID and asks for a password. What is the correct way to get these iPads enrolled?

For ADE-enrolled iPads that are stuck on “Getting Configurations,” check the following before retrying setup:

1. Confirm the device is available in Hexnode ADE/DEP devices

– Go to Admin > Apple Business/School Manager > Automated Device Enrollment > DEP devices.

– Click Sync with ADE.

– Search for the iPad using its serial number.

– Confirm that the device is assigned to the expected ADE enrollment profile.

2. Check Hexnode license availability

– Go to Profile > Billing > Subscriptions.

– Make sure there are enough unused licenses for all the iPads being enrolled.

– If only one license is available, only one additional device can complete enrollment. Additional licenses must be added before enrolling the remaining devices.

3. Retry setup after a reboot or restore

– If the iPad does not allow changing Wi-Fi during setup, restore the iPad using recovery mode and start setup again on a stable network.

4. If Activation Lock appears after restore

– Since the iPad is in Apple Business Manager, Activation Lock can be removed from ABM.

– In Apple Business Manager, open the device record, use the actions menu, and select Turn Off Activation Lock.

– After Activation Lock is turned off, restart setup and continue ADE enrollment.

A restore can bring the device back to setup, but it does not automatically remove Activation Lock. That must be cleared separately from Apple Business Manager for ABM-owned devices.
