Hi community, one of our managed chromeOS devices was reportedly lost and we have now recovered it. However, we are skeptical of any unauthorized changes that might have been made to the device. Would anyone suggest a suitable solution?

Hi @aitana , I think wiping the device would be a good idea, provided you would be okay with losing the data on the device.

Hi @zariah , thanks for your response! Losing the device data won’t be an issue as the organization performs regular backups. So how do I go about wiping the device?

Hello @aitana ,
Thank you for reaching out. You can remove the data on your ChromeOS device by performing the remote action ‘Wipe Device’. Hexnode offers two methods to wipe ChromeOS devices: Remove User Profiles and Factory Reset.

  1. Device wipe using ‘Remove User Profiles’ deletes the user accounts while retaining the device and enrollment policies. Any files downloaded by the user are deleted and cannot be restored.
  2. Device wipe using ‘Factory Reset’ removes all personal and corporate data from the device. The device automatically re-enrolls when connected to Wi-Fi.

Both methods do not require the admin to re-enroll the device manually. For more information and steps to perform the action on your device, refer to Hexnode’s help documentation on the Wipe Device feature. Feel free to reach out if you need further assistance.

Hey, thanks for the solution. It is such a relief to know that I don’t have to re-enroll the device.
