We manage company-owned Android devices and are trying to investigate high mobile data usage. Some users are using browsers like Hexnode Browser or Samsung Browser, and we need to understand what is consuming the data.

I downloaded shared logs from a device, but the .txt files show unreadable symbols when opened in a normal text editor. I was hoping the logs would show user activity or browser history, but I cannot find anything useful.

Is there a way to view Hexnode Browser logs or browser history from enrolled Android devices? If not, what is the best way to track browser data consumption per device or app?

Hello @zayn_nj ,

The unreadable characters in the downloaded log files are expected. Hexnode app logs are compressed and encrypted because they may contain sensitive device diagnostic information. These files are meant for technical troubleshooting and cannot be opened directly in standard text editors.

Hexnode does not provide access to decrypted app logs through the portal, and these logs are not intended to show user browsing activity.

For browser history specifically, Hexnode does not track, record, or store the individual URLs visited by users on Android devices. This applies to native browsers as well as Hexnode Browser. Hexnode Browser is primarily used to restrict browsing to approved websites using allowlisting, but it does not maintain a reportable URL history for administrators.

If your goal is to investigate data overages, the reusable option is to track app-level data usage instead. You can use the Network Data Usage Management policy and then view usage reports from:

Reports > Built-in Reports > Usage Insights > Data Usage > Apps

This report can help you identify how much data was consumed by apps such as Hexnode Browser, Samsung Browser, or other installed applications on a device.

We had used data usage report. It will not tell you which site was opened, but it does show if the browser app itself is the one consuming most of the data. For stricter control, we had to rely more on website allowlisting instead of trying to audit history after the fact.
