BitLocker drives locked after reboot?Solved

When I tried to decrypt the drive, I got an error saying it’s locked and needs to be unlocked before proceeding and the action failed as well.
Thing is – I’ve been using Hexnode to manage Bitlocker, and this is the first time my drives got locked like this. Normally, I can access everything right after boot, but now, after restarting, all drives except C: get locked and ask for a password.
Not sure what I did differently this time… or is this some bug?

Sounds like when you encrypted the drive through hexnode, you might’ve missed enabling the Enable auto-unlock option.
That’s likely the difference. Auto-unlock makes Bitlocker-protected drives unlock automatically when the Os drive is unlocked – and yeah, the Os drive usually unlocks by itself during boot.
If auto-unlock isn’t enabled, you’ll have to manually enter the password or use the BitLocker recovery key each time for those drives.

Ohh, that makes sense! I must’ve enabled that option the first time, but forgot this time.
Auto-unlock definitely works better for our setup. I was thinking of unlocking the drives and re-encrypting the os drive with that option enabled again.

No need to go through all that extra effort. A couple of easier options:

  • Use the Unlock bitlocker action in hexnode. As long as you have the password, recovery key, or any valid unlock method, you can unlock the drives remotely and no need to do it manually on each device.
  • Or, if you just want to turn on auto-unlock without decrypting and re-encrypting, simply go to the device and enable auto-unlock for each drive.
