I’m managing Android tablets in kiosk mode and one device shows an “Access Denied” error when trying to open a kiosk app. I remember fixing something similar before by allowing a blocked package, but I can’t remember the exact steps.
Where can I check which package is being blocked, and should it be added to the app inventory or directly to the kiosk policy?

I had this exact problem a while back!
All you need to do is run the Scan Device action on the tablet to see which package is getting blocked. It’ll show up under Blocked Packages in the Applications section.
Once you’ve got the package name, head over to the Apps tab and add it using “With Bundle ID” if it’s not in your app inventory yet. Then, just go into your kiosk policy and add it under Background Apps.
I tried adding the blocked package using the bundle ID, but Hexnode says it already exists. Does that mean I added the wrong thing?

If Hexnode says the package already exists, you do not need to add it again to the app inventory.
In that case, go directly to the kiosk policy and add the existing app under Android Kiosk Lockdown > Background Apps. Save the policy after adding it.
The “Access Denied” message usually appears because the kiosk app is trying to open or depend on a package that is not allowed while the device is locked down. Adding that package as a Background App allows it to run in kiosk mode without making it a visible kiosk launcher app.

Restarting after changing kiosk background apps has helped us too, especially when the device shows the updated policy as pending. Once it reports Success in Action History, the blocked package error usually clears.
