Android 14 scanner in kiosk mode does not show print app chooser popupSolved

We have identical Hexnode kiosk policies deployed across our handheld scanners. On our Android 13 devices, tapping the print icon inside our app successfully brings up the native app chooser popup.

However, on our newer Android 14 scanners, tapping that same print button does absolutely nothing while inside kiosk mode. If we exit the kiosk, the popup appears normally. I already have the “Print Spooler” added as a background app, and Hexnode isn’t showing any blocked packages.

Why is the print chooser failing to display specifically on Android 14, and how do we fix it? Also, while trying to adjust this policy, some of our remote deployment actions are now stuck in an “Initiated” state—how do we get those to push through?

Thankyou for raising this question.

To fix this, you must explicitly whitelist the necessary background packages within your Hexnode kiosk policy.

Step 1: Add Background Apps to the Policy

  1. In your Hexnode console, open the active kiosk lockdown policy.

  2. Navigate to Kiosk Lockdown > Android Kiosk Lockdown > Background Apps.

  3. Add the following specific packages:

    • com.android.intentresolver (Restores the native Android 14 system app chooser popup)

    • Print Spooler (Required to process the print payload)

    • com.android.vending (Google Play Store—required to prevent policy actions from getting stuck in an “Initiated” state)

    • Your target printing/PDF apps (e.g., Adobe, printer-specific drivers)

Step 2: Save and Sync

Save the policy changes. You can verify that the update successfully reached the scanners by checking the Action History tab on the device summary page. Once synced, the print chooser popup will appear normally.
