Enroll standalone Windows PCs with local accounts without IdP authenticationSolved

I’m testing Hexnode for a Windows-only setup. The Windows PC is standalone, has only local Windows accounts, and is not joined to Active Directory or Microsoft Entra ID. Our identity provider is Google Workspace, but I haven’t configured the Google Workspace integration in Hexnode yet.
I tried enrolling with the default Windows enrollment flow using “Use Global Authentication” and then chose Google authentication, but it failed because the IdP integration is not set up.
For this kind of standalone Windows PC, should I use Self-Enrollment – Local or Quick Open Enrollment? I’m looking for a simple enrollment using the enrollment URL/installer, and I also want to know where to confirm that the device enrolled successfully. After enrollment, I’d also like to understand whether Remote Lock, Lost Mode, BitLocker recovery key escrow, and Google Workspace login are supported in this setup.

For a standalone Windows PC with only local accounts and no directory integration, use Self-Enrollment – Local with authentication disabled.

The authentication failure occurred because the enrollment profile was trying to use Google authentication while Google Workspace was not integrated with the Hexnode portal.

Recommended setup:

  1. Go to Enroll > All Enrollments.
  2. Choose Self-Enrollment – Local for Windows enrollment.
  3. In the enrollment settings, set authentication to No Authentication instead of using global authentication.
  4. Select a default local user for the enrollment profile. This prevents the enrollment flow from requiring Google Workspace, Microsoft Entra ID, or Active Directory authentication.
  5. Save the enrollment configuration.

On the Windows device:

  1. Open the Hexnode UEM enrollment URL for your portal in a browser.
  2. Download the Hexnode UEM Installer.
  3. Run the installer on the Windows PC.
  4. Complete the installation prompts.

After installation, the device should appear in the portal under Manage > Devices. If the device is listed there, the enrollment is successful.
