APNs certificate Apple ID mismatch in Hexnode: safe renewal using UIDSolved

Our APNs certificate in Hexnode is close to expiry. Under Admin > APNs, Hexnode shows one Apple ID for the certificate, but when we sign in to the Apple Push Certificates Portal with that Apple ID, the certificate is not listed.

We found another APNs certificate in Apple’s portal with the same Unique Identifier / Topic as the one shown in Hexnode, but the serial number does not match. I’m trying to avoid creating a new APNs certificate by mistake and having to re-enroll all existing Apple devices.

Is the Apple ID shown in Hexnode a confirmed record of the Apple account used to create the certificate? And if the UID matches but the serial number differs, can the certificate be safely renewed?

Welcome to the Hexnode Community.

The Apple ID displayed under Admin > APNs in Hexnode is a reference value entered during APNs setup or renewal. It should not be treated as a system-verified confirmation of the exact Apple account used in the Apple Push Certificates Portal.

For APNs renewal, the most important value to verify is the Unique Identifier, also referred to as the UID or Topic. If the UID shown in Hexnode matches the UID/Topic shown for the certificate in the Apple Push Certificates Portal, you are looking at the correct APNs certificate.

A serial number mismatch can happen if the certificate was renewed on Apple’s side at some point but the renewed certificate was not uploaded back to Hexnode. In that case, the serial number changes, while the UID/Topic remains tied to the same MDM APNs certificate.

So, if the UID matches exactly, you can renew that existing certificate and upload the renewed certificate to Hexnode without re-enrolling devices. Do not create a brand-new APNs certificate, as that would break management communication for already enrolled devices.
