Windows remote wipe fails in Hexnode when WinRE is disabled or corruptedSolved

I’m trying to wipe a Windows device from Hexnode, but the wipe action keeps failing with a general error. The device is online, compliant, unlocked, and there are no major operations running on it.

I updated Windows just in case, but that didn’t seem to help. I also tried checking WinRE with reagentc /info from Command Prompt and PowerShell as administrator, but it returned:

REAGENTC.EXE: Operation failed

REAGENTC.EXE: An error has occurred

Then I ran reagentc /enable, which completed successfully, but the remote wipe still failed. Has anyone seen this with Windows remote wipe through Hexnode?

Windows remote wipe through MDM depends on the Windows Recovery Environment (WinRE). If WinRE is disabled, missing, or corrupted, the Windows RemoteWipe CSP may fail because the OS cannot start the recovery workflow required for the wipe.

A good first check is to run the following command locally on the Windows device with administrator privileges:

reagentc /info

If WinRE is shown as disabled, enable it using:

reagentc /enable

After enabling WinRE, restart the device before triggering the wipe again from Hexnode. Re-enabling WinRE updates the Boot Configuration Data, but Windows may not recognize the recovery environment for MDM wipe actions until after a reboot.
