How does macOS ADE autofill the user's full name during local account creation?Solved

In a macOS ADE enrollment profile, under Account Creation > Local User Account Creation, there is an option to autofill the user’s full name. The description says the field will be populated with a default value, but I’m not sure what that value is.

Does it use the owner assigned to the device in Hexnode? Or does it pull the name from a directory service during enrollment? I’m also trying to understand how the timing works, since the local account creation screen appears during Setup Assistant when the device is only just getting enrolled.

Hi @rob_mitch ,

The Autofill user’s full name option in the macOS ADE enrollment profile populates the Full Name field on the local account creation screen during Setup Assistant.

The value can come from either of these sources, depending on how the ADE profile is configured:

1. Directory-authenticated enrollment
If Directory Authentication is enabled in the ADE profile, the user authenticates with their corporate credentials before the local account creation screen appears. Hexnode UEM can then fetch the authenticated user’s full name from the configured directory or identity provider and use it to populate the Full Name field.

2. User pre-assigned to the ADE device
If a user is assigned to the device in Hexnode UEM before the device is activated, Hexnode UEM can include that owner information in the ADE enrollment payload. During the out-of-box enrollment flow, macOS receives this information and uses it to populate the local account Full Name field.

So, the autofilled value is not a random default. It is based on either the authenticated directory user or the user already assigned to the device in Hexnode UEM.
