iOS user policy showing on an Android device in HexnodeSolved

I noticed something odd while reviewing one of our Android devices in Hexnode. The device shows three assigned policies. One is expected, another is a policy we normally push, but the third is a custom policy that was created for iOS devices only.

The policy appears on the Android device, but I cannot remove it directly from the device. When I change the device owner, the policy disappears, but I need the device to stay assigned to the original owner. What is the correct way to remove this policy without changing the owner permanently?

Hi @jayceon,

This usually happens when the policy is associated through a user-based policy mapping rather than being assigned directly to the device.

If a policy is mapped to a user, devices owned by that user can show the policy under their associated policies. Changing the device owner removes the policy because the device is no longer linked to that user. However, that is only a workaround if the device must remain with the same owner.

To remove the policy while keeping the original owner:

  1. On your Hexnode UEM console, go to Manage > Users.
  2. Select the user who owns the affected device.
  3. Open the Policies sub-tab for that user.
  4. Remove or unassign the policy from the user.

After the user-based policy mapping is removed, the policy should no longer appear on the Android device owned by that user.
