New Hexnode technician gets Access Denied with custom role permissionsSolved

A newly created technician in our Hexnode portal is getting an Access Denied message on portal tabs like Manage and Enroll even though the same custom Service Desk profile works for other technicians.

We checked our technician license count and we are still within the allowed limit, so it does not look like a license restriction. Reassigning the same custom profile did not help. Assigning the default Read-Only Technician role also did not fix it, but switching the technician to an Admin role made the portal accessible.

Has anyone seen custom technician roles not applying correctly for newly created technician accounts?

Hello @miliie ,

This behavior is usually unrelated to the technician license limit if the portal still has available technician seats.

Since the technician can access the portal when assigned an Admin role, the account itself is valid. The issue is more likely with how the custom technician role permissions are being applied or synced to that technician.

Recommended checks:

  1. Go to Admin > Technicians & Roles > Technicians and confirm that the affected technician has the intended custom profile assigned.

  2. Go to Admin > Technicians & Roles > Roles and open the role assigned to that custom profile.

  3. Verify that the required portal sections such as Manage, Enroll, and other intended tabs are allowed for the role, then save the changes.

  4. Go to Admin > Technicians & Roles > Profiles and open the custom profile. Confirm that the intended role is assigned, and save the profile again even if no changes are made. This forces the permission scheme to re-sync with the associated technicians.

  5. Ask the technician to log out of the Hexnode UEM portal and log back in.

If the same profile works for existing technicians but fails only for newly created technicians, it may indicate a permission sync issue rather than an incorrect role configuration.

It worked! Once the profile was resaved and the technician logged back in, the custom profile started working correctly. The new technician can now access the assigned tabs without Admin privileges.
