Android kiosk mode shows "Denied Access" for allowlisted appsSolved

Users are getting a “Denied Access” message when opening allowed apps like ChatGPT on Android devices in kiosk mode. The apps are installed on the devices and were added to the policy allowlist, but they still won’t open from the kiosk setup. I checked the device’s blocked packages list and the app package does not appear there. Is there another kiosk setting that controls whether an app can be launched?

For Android devices in kiosk mode, installing an app and adding it to an allowlist is not always enough to make the app available inside kiosk. The app also needs to be included in the kiosk lockdown configuration of the policy applied to the device.Check the associated policy and confirm that the app is added under the Android kiosk lockdown section. After updating the policy, save it and allow the device to sync the latest policy changes.

A useful troubleshooting flow is:

1. Reproduce the “Denied Access” message on the device.

2. In Hexnode, go to Manage > select the device > Applications.

3. Check the Blocked Packages section to see if any package was blocked during the launch attempt.

4. Open the Android kiosk policy associated with the device.

5. Make sure the required app is added in the kiosk lockdown configuration.

6. Save the policy and sync the device.
If the kiosk lockdown configuration is missing, Android kiosk may continue to deny access even when the app is installed and allowed elsewhere in the policy.
