I’m trying to deploy the default iOS Calendar app back to managed devices through MDM, but the install keeps failing with: “Cannot install app. Please sign in to your iTunes account.” Is there any workaround to install the native Calendar app without an Apple ID, or is wiping the device the only option?

Apple’s native system apps, such as Calendar, cannot be deployed as VPP apps or deployed directly as managed apps from the UEM portal in the same way as regular App Store apps.
If the Calendar app was removed from the device, it must be restored from the App Store on the device. Apple requires a personal Apple Account/iTunes account to authorize that download, even though the app is free.
A device wipe is not required just to restore Calendar. The practical option is for the user to sign in with an Apple Account on the device and download Calendar again from the App Store.

So even if the user opens the App Store manually, they still need to sign in with an Apple ID? I was hoping the default Apple apps could be downloaded without an account.

Hi @ren_ben,
Manual download from the App Store still requires an Apple Account/iTunes sign-in. Since Calendar is treated as a public App Store download when reinstalling it, MDM cannot bypass Apple’s account authorization requirement.
