An employee lost an iPhone, and I’m setting up a replacement device. The new iPhone enrolled into Hexnode successfully, but the Hexnode UEM app is not downloading automatically after enrollment. In the device action history, the app install shows as failed. Where should I check this?

Yes. Renewing the Apple VPP token should resolve the app installation failure if the expired token is the cause.

To renew the token:

  1. Sign in to Apple Business Manager.
  2. Open Settings from the organization menu.
  3. Go to Payments and Billing > Apps and Books.
  4. Scroll to Content Tokens.
  5. Download the required content token.
  6. In Hexnode, go to Admin > Apple Business/School Manager > Apple VPP.
  7. Select the Apple VPP account that matches the token.
  8. Upload the newly downloaded token using the Renew VPP Token option.
  9. Save the changes.

After the token is renewed, initiate the Hexnode UEM app installation again from the device page: Manage > Devices > select the device > Device Summary > Enrollment Details > Hexnode UEM App Installed > click the refresh icon. This should push the Hexnode UEM app again and install it on the iPhone automatically.

For iOS devices, the Hexnode UEM app installation can fail if there is no available Apple VPP license or if the Apple VPP token used in Hexnode has expired. Check the following:

  1. Go to Apps > Local Apps.
  2. Filter the app list by VPP apps.
  3. Search for Hexnode UEM.
  4. Confirm that an available VPP license exists for the app.
  5. Then go to Admin > Apple Business/School Manager > Apple VPP and verify whether the VPP token is active.

If the VPP token has expired, Hexnode will not be able to assign the app license or push the app successfully to the enrolled iPhone.

I checked the VPP section and the token is expired. I don’t have access to the Apple Business Manager account myself, so I’ll need to ask our IT team to renew it. Once that’s done, should the Hexnode UEM app install automatically?
