iPhone ADE enrollment error: “This account is not authorized for this action”Solved

I’m trying to enroll a factory-reset iPhone 12 through Apple Business Manager/ADE. The phone goes through language, Wi-Fi, and setup normally, then shows the “Enroll this iPhone” screen. After I tap the enrollment button, it fails with: “This account is not authorized for this action.” The device is visible in Apple Business Manager, but I don’t see it under Manage in Hexnode. Should I remove it from Apple Business Manager and try again? Also, do inactive devices in Hexnode still use up licenses?

Do not remove the device from Apple Business just because it is not appearing under Manage in Hexnode yet.

For ADE enrollment, the error “This account is not authorized for this action” can occur when the Hexnode portal has reached its available device license limit. If there are no free device licenses, a new iPhone cannot complete enrollment even if it is correctly assigned in Apple Business.

A few points to check:

1. Verify the total number of Hexnode device licenses available in the portal.

2. Compare it with the number of currently enrolled devices.

3. Remember that inactive devices still consume licenses as long as they remain enrolled in Hexnode.

4. If there are inactive or old devices that are no longer managed, disenroll them from Hexnode to free licenses.

5. Once a license is available, retry the iPhone setup enrollment.

If the device is still assigned correctly in Apple Business and a Hexnode license is available, the setup enrollment should proceed without that authorization error.
