iPad policy stuck on “Scanning in progress” after Apple Configurator enrollmentSolved

I wiped an iPad using Apple Configurator and enrolled it into Hexnode. The device shows up under Manage, and I associated a custom iOS policy with it, but the policy status stayed at “Scanning in progress” for a while and nothing seemed to install on the iPad. I also noticed that one of the Web Clips in the policy was opening the wrong/non-working address. Is there a way to edit the Web Clip URL without creating the whole policy again?

For an iPad enrolled through Apple Configurator, if the policy is already associated from Manage > Devices > <device> > Policies, you do not need to associate the same policy again. When the policy status shows “Scanning in progress”, it usually means Hexnode is checking the device and waiting for the device to receive/apply the queued commands. Try the following:

  1. Restart the iPad.
  2. Make sure the iPad has a stable internet connection.
  3. If possible, connect it to a different network and wait for the device to check in again.
  4. Check the device’s Action History from Manage > Devices > <device> > Action History to confirm whether commands are being pushed.

In many cases, once the device checks in successfully after a restart or network refresh, the associated policy starts applying without needing to re-associate it.

Restarting the iPad worked for me. I didn’t re-associate the policy, and after a short wait it finally loaded on the device.

About the Web Clip: you can edit the existing Web Clip URL if it was added as a Web App/Web Clip in Hexnode.

Go to Apps > search for the Web Clip or Web App > open it > Edit > update the URL > Save.

If you prefer to add a new Web Clip instead, open the existing policy and go to: Policies > <policy> > Manage > Modify > iOS > Web Clip Add the new Web Clip there and save the policy.

The updated policy will be pushed to the associated iPad when the device checks in.
