Yes, the restriction “Connect to MDM-configured Wi-Fi networks only” can cause this behavior.
When this option is enabled, the iPad is limited to Wi-Fi networks that are configured and pushed through MDM. If the device cannot connect to the configured network, or if the Wi-Fi configuration is no longer usable, it may not show other available networks for manual selection.
To prevent this from recurring:
1. Open the iOS policy applied to the kiosk device.
2. Disable “Connect to MDM-configured Wi-Fi networks only”.
3. Enable “Force Wi-Fi ON” if you want to prevent users from turning Wi-Fi off from Control Center.
4. Save the policy.
However, since the affected iPad is currently offline, it will not receive the updated policy until it gets an internet connection.
To bring it back online, try one of these options:
– Create a temporary hotspot with the exact same SSID as the Wi-Fi network configured in the MDM Wi-Fi policy. The security type and password should also match the policy configuration. If the configured network is open, the hotspot must also be open.
– Use a Lightning-to-Ethernet adapter to connect the iPad directly to a live network cable. This bypasses Wi-Fi and allows the device to sync the updated Hexnode policy.
Once the device comes online, it should receive the updated policy and normal Wi-Fi scanning should be restored.
